Our Vision Statement

We are a people of God’s extravagant welcome, come, share your journey with us.

We are a 19th Century church, with a 21st Century message. Ours is a vibrant, diverse, loving and supportive faith community with a rich, ongoing history of active ministry, and a steadfast belief in God’s universal grace. We work together in covenant with one another and God, as revealed in Jesus Christ and empowered by the “still speaking” Holy Spirit. We share God’s extravagant welcome with all people. We welcome and equally affirm persons of every race, ethnic origin, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental ability, economic or educational status, and family configuration into the full life and ministry of the church. We are strongly committed to social justice and responsible stewardship of God’s creation. We engage in mission, both locally and globally, in cooperation with others of faith “that they may all be one” in the body of Christ.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

Adult Education Study Groups – 500th Anniversary of the Reformation

Ivanhoe Church is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation by holding a four-session, small-group study. By lifting up some of the Reformation’s central claims, this study celebrates the United Church of Christ’s Reformation heritage.

Matt Fitzgerald, a Chicago-area UCC pastor, notes in the foreword to our Study Guide that, “[This study] celebrates the United Church of Christ’s Reformation heritage by lifting up some of the Reformation’s central claims. There is beauty here. And, ugliness too. Inasmuch as ideas can thrill, these ideas are thrilling. Brace yourself!

We will discuss topics such as: Guess What? You’re a Priest; Which Do You Prefer, an Angry God or a Cheap Gospel?; Total Depravity; Luther’s Sins—and Ours; and, The Protestant Principle.

Study and discussion sessions:
Tuesdays @ 12:30 p.m., Oct 3, 10, 17, 24.  led by Pastor Kris Hewitt
Thursdays @ 6 p.m. = Oct 5, 12, 19, 26 lead Pastor Kris Hewitt
Sunday @ 9 a.m. = Oct 8, 15, 22, 29 led by Rev. Phil Ferguson
